In defeating Bronze Athletic last Saturday by 2 goals to 0 Hampstead Town not only disposed of their most formidable rivals but upheld their unbeaten record in the Premier Amateur Section London League, and practically made certain of the championship. In the space of two seasons the Town club has attracted and retained a following of supporters that is the envy of many older established senior amateur clubs, and on this occasion the team gave a most convincing display, and were cheered to victory by some 1,500 local enthusiasts at the Avenue ground. Bronze had an excellent chance of scoring right from the kick-off, but when once the Town had settled down they gave the visitors an exceedingly warm time, their clever goalkeeper, Mayne being called upon to save many hot shots and doing a lot of work in his usual masterly style. Following excellent work by H. W. Pike, G. H. Garlick (who gave a fine display on the left wing) scored with a rasping shot. His success appeared to nettle the visiting defence, and he received very close and occasionally over-vigorous attention from the Bronze back, which did not escape the notice of the referee, their goal having several narrow shaves from the resultant free kicks. A. W. Humphreys, as the result of an excellent effort, scored the Town's second goal in the concluding stages of the game. Bronze made many determined attempts to score, but the Hampstead halves and backs were invincible, and Matthews was seldom called upon to defend his goal. The Bronze trio, however, could not hold the Town forwards, although H. Ashman played quite a good game at centre-half against his old club and was the recipient of much good-natured comment from the crowd. F. Preece, a newcomer to the Town ranks, proved a great acquisition at inside-right, while E. J. E. Wright gave his usual outstanding display at centre-half.
