Wednesday 28th April - Youngsters do reserves proud
A very young, inexperienced reserve team did the club proud tonight despite losing 5-3 to Chesham United in the final Capital League game of the season. The Chesham side contained a number of experienced first team players, while the Hendon squad were all aged under 20 except for substitute Pat Gavin, and many still play Under 16 football. It was Hendon that took the lead after just 70 seconds when Adilson Lopes found the back of the net. Chesham equalised through a Peter Clifford header in the 38th minute, but Hendon regained the lead immediately thanks to Apacha Ayala. Brett Court equalised for a second time just before half time to ensure the sides went in level.
Chesham took a grip on the game, taking the lead two minutes after the restart through Ben Smith, before the same player scored the Generals fourth goal from the penalty spot. Substitute John Lawford made it 5-2 just before the hour mark, but almost immediately Hendon struck back through Patou Katshenge. That, somewhat surprisingly was the end of the scoring. Hendon keeper Luke Thornton made a string of excellent saves throughout the game, but it must be said that all fourteen players used were a credit to the club, not one of them let the club down. Despite the defeat, the signs are definitely good for the future of the club with a number of talented youngsters performing well tonight.
Hendon line up : Luke Thornton, John Conway (Lewis Parker 79), Aaron McLeish, David Pierre, Connor Carroll, Patou Katshenge, Matthew Peart (Pat Gavin 46), Daniel Llewellyn, Adilson Lopes, Bradley Bubb, Apacha Ayala (Marvin Tabi 70). Unused subs : Otis Kingsley, Andrew Vincent

Thursday 26th February - Reserves draw at Slough
An inexperienced reserve team drew 2-2 at Slough Town last night. Having gone a goal down in the first half, they equalised thanks to a goal from Tom English, before Adilson Lopes put the Greens in front. However Slough equalised to earn a point. There was added good news with the return of goalkeeper Luke Thornton from injury, having broken a finger earlier in the season while on loan at Hanwell Town. The reserves have one league game left at home to Chesham, the date of which is yet to be confirmed.
Team : Luke Thornton, Dave Hunt, James Burgess, Mark Burgess, Aaron McLeish, David Pierre, Andre Delisser, Simon Huggett, Daniel Llewellyn, Tom English, Adilson Lopes. Subs : Roy Santos, Andre Humphrey, Marvin Tabi, Andrew Vincent.
Wednesday 11th February - Lewis makes his mark for reserves
Trialist Lewis Mark made an impressive debut for the reserves tonight as he hit all three goals in Hendon's 3-1 win over Farnborough Town. The opening goal came in the 2nd minute when Mark slammed the loose ball into the net. The lead was doubled in the 52nd minute, and he completed his hat-trick seven minutes later with a clinical finish. Fellow trialist David Pierre almost extended the lead further shortly afterwards with a fiercely struck shot from long distance that caught the keeper by surprise. Farnborough gave themselves a lifeline with a 70th minute strike from Alex Christou and had a second goal disallowed for offside, but the Greens held on for a deserved win.
Team : Gillett, Booth, J.Burgess, M.Burgess, Butler, Pierre (Katshenge 63), Crace, Delisser, Llewellyn, Mark (Lopes 81), Binns (McLeish 81). Unused subs : Vincent, Hunt.
Wednesday 21st January - Reserves lose at Yeading
Despite fielding a strong side the reserves lost 2-1 at Yeading this evening. The big boost was the return of Steve Butler and Andre Delisser from injury. Hendon had two or three good chances in the opening half hour, but the strikers from Pat Gavin and Martin Randall failed to find the target. Punishment came in the 38th minute when a corner was only half cleared, and Leon Woodruffe fired the ball home from 20 yards. The lead was doubled midway through the second half by Devon Annal who broke through the Hendon defence. The consolation came with seven minutes to go when a 25 yard strike from Leon Woodruffe looked to be covered by the Yeading keeper, but he managed to fumble the ball and it trickled over the line.
Team : Lindsay, Booth, McLeish, M.Burgess, Butler (Lopes 76), Llewellyn (Unal 72), Delisser, Forde, Randall, Gavin, J.Burgess. Unused sub : Vincent
Wednesday 7th January - Convincing win for reserves
The reserves convincingly beat Harrow Borough 4-0 this evening, all the goals coming in the second half. The first half was entertaining but very few chances were created by either side. The first goal came on the hour mark, Luke Sheekey finding the back of the net, and just two minutes later trialist John Frendo doubled the lead. Fabian Forde scored the third goal, which was the best of the night as he completed an excellent move involving a number of players. Forde was also the scorer of the fourth goal shortly before the end of the game.
Team : Lindsay, M.Burgess, Booth, J.Burgess, Duncan, Llewellyn (McLeish), Goran, Sheekey, Forde, Frendo, Huggett (Unal). Unused sub : Vincent.
Tuesday 18th November - Reserves pick up a point
The reserves picked up a point at Staines Town this evening courtesy of a 62nd minute equaliser from Andre Delisser following a goalmouth scramble. Staines had taken the lead just before half time when Craig Maskell capitalised on an error by Jaz Rose to run clear and chip the ball over Dean Lindsay. The Greens had further chances to score but were either unable to find the target or found the Staines keeper in good form.
The reserves travelled to Woking tonight but were unable to earn anything as they lost 4-2. Woking created plenty of chances in the first half and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 26th minute through Ollie Burgess. Just five minutes later the same player had doubled the lead as the Greens were in some disarray. Despite that they did have their chances to score but were unable to take them. Within two minutes of the second half restarting Gary Meakin pulled a goal back after being sent clear of the defence. However Woking regained control and scored their third thanks to Jermaine Emmanuel. In the 65th minute Dale Binns showed that he was well on the way back to form with a trademark goal before Woking scored their fourth courtesy of a Jaz Rose own goal with 8 minutes to go. The game was soured with a rash of yellow cards in the final few minutes, Simon Huggett being dismissed for two bookings in a short space of time.
Wednesday 29th October - Strong reserves beat Yeading
A strong reserve side containing a number of first teamers had a good workout this evening as they ran out 4-1 winners over Yeading at Claremont Road. Hendon took the lead after 10 minutes when Ricci Crace turned the ball home before Ricardo Alves doubled the lead a few minutes later when he broke through the defence with a mazy run to score. Yeading then pulled a goal back only for Ricci Crace to restore the two goal lead within a minute. The score remained 3-1 at half time, and throughout much of the second half until Eugene Ofori headed home from a corner. It was a pleasing performance for the Hendon coaching staff as the focus now turns to the first team friendly on Saturday.
Wednesday 8th October - Reserves lose to experienced Rebels side
The reserves lost 2-1 this evening to a Slough Town side filled with experience, including former Hendon favourite Freddie Hyatt. Hendon took the lead in the 22nd minute when a cross from Joel Bevis was touched on by Slough keeper Alan Foster for Jon-Barrie Bates to head home from close range. Slough came back into the game well in the second half and equalised on the hour mark when Andrew Deaner scored a quite excellent goal from the edge of the area after excellent build up. The winning goal came in the 83rd minute when Matthew Seedal broke clear of the defence and slotted the ball past Dean Lindsay.
Team : Dean Lindsay, Gary Meakin, Andy Hutchinson (Jaz Rose 85), Mark Burgess, James Burgess, Simon Huggett (Daniel Llewellyn 78), Jon-Barrie Bates, Joel Bevis, Martin Randall, Ricardo Alves, Sam Byfield (David Kiobel 71).
Wednesday 24th September - Hornchurch win with late extra time goal
The reserves entertained Hornchurch in the first round of the Capital League Cup and unfortunately lost to a late extra time goal. Hendon took the lead after about quarter of an hour when Dave Hunt got the decisive touch in a goalmouth scramble following a corner. Hornchurch pulled a goal back within ten minutes, but just a couple of minutes later Hunt restored the lead. Early in the second half, Hornchurch scored their second equaliser and from there on the tie had extra time written all over it, despite the fact that both sides created a handful of chances. Extra duly came along, but until Hornchurch scored with a couple of minutes to go, neither side could find the net. Hendon's best chances fell to defender Greg Joseph who saw a headed effort hit the woodwork and another fly narrowly wide of the goal.
Monday 15th September - Reserves go down at Chesham
The reserves lost 5-2 at Chesham United tonight, and went a goal behind in the 22nd minute when Gary Sippetts fired the ball home. Just two minutes later Matt Skinner had doubled the lead before Andy Hutchinson reduced the arrears when he fired the ball through a crowded penalty area from a Gary Meakin free kick. However, Ben Smith restored the two goal advantage within 30 seconds, and just before half time Sippetts scored his second of the evening. Matt Skinner scored Chesham's fifth goal early in the second half, before Simon Huggett missed a penalty after Gary Meakin was fouled in the area. Hendon's second goal came in the 65th minute when Joel Beavis bundled the ball home after Mark Burgess had put the ball back into the six yard box. Hendon played much better in the final 20 minutes but it was too little too late.
Team : Luke Thornton (Andrew Vincent 57), Gary Meakin, Andy Hutchinson, Jaz Rose, Mark Burgess, Simon Huggett, Richard Evans (Mehmet Unal HT), Dave Hunt, Joel Bevis, Andy Cook (Steve Gray 65), Charles Antwi. Unused sub : Daniel Llewellyn
Wednesday 10th September - Poor performance but still a point
Despite a very poor second half performance, the reserves picked up another point this evening as they drew 0-0 with Harrow Borough. The closest the Greens came to scoring was when Joel Bevis somehow failed to scramble the ball over the line when it was easier to score.
Team : Luke Thornton, Gary Meakin, Andy Hutchinson, Jaz Rose, Greg Joseph, Simon Huggett, Mehmet Unal (Patou Katsheynge), Dave Hunt (Stephen Gray), Joel Bevis, Gary Redmond, Sam Byfield.
Wednesday 3rd September - Good start continues
The reserves continued their good start to the season with a 1-1 draw at Farnborough Town. Farnborough took the lead in the first half, but Hendon fought back well and it was Ricardo Alves who found the net after good work from Sam Byfield.
Team : Luke Thornton, Gary Meakins, Andy Hutchinson, James Burgess, Greg Joseph, Simon Huggett, Mo Stevenson, Dave Hunt, Mark Burgess, Ricardo Alves, Sam Byfield. Subs : Gary Redmond, Patou Katsheynge, Charles Antwi, Mehmet Unal, Jazz Rose.
Wednesday 27th August - Dons have comfortable victory
The reserves ran out comfortable 4-1 winners against Woking this evening. They took the lead in the 19th minute when Ricardo Alves glanced home a header, and three minutes later Dale Binns latched on to a ball, beat his marker and slotted the ball home from an angle. The third goal came shortly before half time when Rene James-Barriteau, who caused problems all evening with his pace, finished well after breaking through the defence. Woking fought back in the second half and deservedly pulled a goal back with 20 minutes to go. The final goal came in stoppage time when Gary Meakins fed a quick free kick through to James-Barriteau who finished clinically. Another positive to come out of the game was that Jon-Barrie Bates came through his first 90 minutes since returning from holiday, and had an influential performance in midfield.
Team: Luke Thornton, Gary Meakins, Andy Hutchinson, Mark Burgess, Mehmet Unal (Greg Joseph HT), Andre Delisser, Jon-Barrie Bates, Dave Hunt, Rene James-Barriteau, Ricardo Alves (Patou Katsheynge 55), Dale Binns (Sam Byfield 76), Unused subs: Simon Huggett, Andrew Vincent.
Wednesday 20th August - Greens earn point in first game
In a thoroughly entertaining game tonight, the reserve team drew 3-3 with Staines Town. The visitors ran into a two goal lead inside 7 minutes before Sam Byfield pulled a goal back a minute later. Staines scored a third in the 15th minute only for Ricci Crace to fire home a free kick three minutes later. That was the last goal until the 63rd minute when Crace scored his second goal of the evening, and his fourth in two days, when he hooked home a loose ball. Hendon created the better chances in the second half, and but for the performance of Staines keeper Paul McCarthy could well have scored more.
The first few fixtures for the new season in the Capital League have been released this morning, and the opening game sees the reserves entertain Staines Town at Claremont Road on Wednesday, 20th August at 7.45pm. The following week we are also at home, this time against Woking.
