Under 13s 2001/2 - News
[news] [fixtures & results] [back to archive index]
Sunday 14th April - St Andrews 4 Hendon 3

Hendon Under-13s manager Gary Hyams was raging at what he considered a series of controversial decisions that went against his team on Sunday morning. It was his team's first game for a month and there was little sign of ring-rust as Paul MORAN gave Hendon the lead in the 20th minute. Two minutes later, St Andrews, who had won the reverse fixture 7-1, equalised, and they took the lead in the 27th minute when they were awarded and converted a penalty. Mr Hyams was at a loss to know what offence had been committed for the spot-kick. In the 31st minute Raj AHMED scored with a fine header from Moran's corner to equalise and the teams turned around level. In the 45th minute, St Andrews regained the lead, only for Hendon to get a second equaliser, from Jesse ANDOH, 7 minutes later. The game was decided in the 60th minute when St Andrews scored their 4th goal. Their goalscorer was many yards offside, but the referee overruled his assistant who flagged for the infringement. "The boys played tremendously well," said Mr Hyams. "I am gutted for them. Raj AHMED was man of the match."

Sunday 10th March - Hendon 0 Headstone Manor B 2

Hendon Under-13s paid the penalty for wasting too many chances and went down to a 2-0 defeat against a strong Headstone Manor "B" team at Clitterhouse Playing Fields on Sunday morning. A goal in each half, after 30 and 60 minutes, respectively were enough for Headstone Manor to claim the points. "We had the chances to win the game," bemoaned manager Gary Hyams, "but we didn't take them. They created 2 good chances and scored twice. My man of the match was Mairwais DAULATZIA."

Sunday 3rd March - Hendon 2 Greenford Celtic 5

Hendon Under-13s came desperately close to ending Greenford Celtic's unbeaten Harrow Youth League run on Sunday but, in the end, 3 late goals sealed their fate. Greenford Celtic took the lead after 17 minutes but Hendon hit back 6 minutes later, Paul MORAN scoring the equaliser. Hendon then proceeded to miss a number of chances and the teams turned around level at 1-1. Twelve minutes into the second half Celtic regained the lead, only for Hendon to pull back on level terms within 4 minutes, Mairwais DAULATZIA scoring his first for the club. Unfortunately, four minutes later, Greenford Cetlic regained the lead and they added 2 more in the final 8 minutes. "We gave them a run for their money," admitted manager Gary Hyams, "but they finished more strongly. The scoreline did not reflect the play. I could not name a man of the match because a lot of players had good games but nobody was outstanding."

Sunday 10th February - South Ruislip Rangers 2 Hendon 8

Hendon Under-13s recorded another big win in the Harrow Youth League and goal-hungry striker Ivalio DMITROV again helped himself to netful of goals, bagging 7 of Hendon's 8. DMITROV opening the scoring in the 1st minute, but South Ruislip equalised in the 23rd minute. Three minutes later, Hendon regained the lead, through Paul MORAN, but after that it was all DMITROV. He scored 30th and 33rd minutes to make it 4-1 at half-time. Three minutes into the second half, South Ruislip reduced the arrears, but DMITROV quickly made it 5-2. DMITROV then scored in the 43rd, 54th and 60th minutes to complete a very comfortable victory. "It wasn't a great game to watch," admitted manager Gary Hyams, "but we did win comfortably. DMITROV was again outstanding but he was pipped for man of the match by Tommy DAVIS."

Sunday 20th January - Ruislip Manor 3 Hendon 3

Hendon Under-13s, hit by illness and unavailablity, travelled to Ruislip Manor with just 10 players on Sunday, but did exceptionally well in the circumstances to come away with a 3-3 draw.Goals after 10 and 14 minutes made things very difficult for the youngsters and they got much harder when an awful penalty decsion went against them in the 20th minute. Three minutes later, and 3-0 down, a perfectly good goal was ruled out because a "phantom" Hendon player was offside. With the conditions favouring them in the second half, Hendon set about repairing the damage after the break. Ivalio DMITROV reduced the arears 5 minutes after the break, but they had to wait until the final 10 minutes for the next goal. It was worth waiting for, as Anthony WRIGHT fired in a magnificent 25-yarder. In the 65th minute, Paul MORAN popped up to net the equaliser, but the final whistle came too soon for Hendon, who looked the only winners at that stage. "We showed real commitment today with only 10 players," said manager Gary Hyams. "In the first half, we probably had 80 percent of the ball but could not score. In the second half, we showed our character and in the end had lots of chances to score, but didn't take them. My Man of the Match was Tom DAVIS."

Sunday 13th January - Hendon 18 AFC Wasps 2

Hendon Under-13s seemed to be struggling when AFC Wasps reduced the arrears to 3-2 in the 27th minute, but nobody could guess what would follow. The youngsters would score once before the break and 14 times after, including 12 in the final 24 minutes. At the heart of this was a 10-goal performance from Ivalio Dmitrov, who at one stage scored 3 times in a minute. AFC Wasps even took the lead, after 4 minutes, but Hendon equalised through Rajah AHMED 4 minutes later. DMITROV gave Hendon the lead in the 21st minute and DMITROV made it 3-1 in the 25th minute. Two minutes later, Wasps made it 3-2, but Anthony WRIGHT restored the 2-goal lead in the 29th minute. Manager Gary Hyams was very unhappy with the first half performance and his half-time talk had the desired effect. This was the tale of woe for AFC Wasps: DMITROV (36 minutes), DMITROV (39), AHMED (43), DMITROV (44), Paul MENOZZI (48), DMITROV (49), DMITROV (49, again), DMITROV (50), WRIGHT (55), AHMED (58), Paul MORAN (61), DMITROV (64), WRIGHT (65) and DMITROV (66). Man of the match, amzingly, was not Dmitrov, but Paul MORAN, "He only scored once this morning," explained Mr Hyams, "but he was very creative. We were terrible in the first half, although we woke up after half time."

Sunday 6th January - Spur Road 3 Hendon 3

Hendon Under-13s had to settle for a point against Spur Road at Old Camdenians on Sunday morning, when they twice lost a lead and, in the end, had to score an equaliser even to pick up a single Harrow Youth League Division Two point. In the 10th minute, Ivalio DMITROV opened the scoring, but Spur Road were back on level terms in the 18th minute. Four minutes later, Hendon regained the lead, through Rajah AHMED, and they held onto this advantage into the second half. However, Spur Road scored their second equaliser in the 40th minute, and 8 minutes later, they took the lead for the first time. This is when Hendon showed their great spirit and, in the 60th minute, Paul MORAN got an equaliser. Try as they might, the winner just would not come. "With all the chances we had, we should have won," said manager Gary Hyams, "but in the end we were maybe a little lucky to get a draw. It was a very good game and my men of the match were Kwaku PEPPERA and Anthony WRIGHT."

Sunday 16th December - Hendon 8 Larkspur Rovers 0

Hendon Under-13s gave manager Gary Hyams an early Christmas present with a comprehensive victory over winless Larkspur "B" at Clitterhouse Playing Fields. It was a pretty awful day for football, with a bitterly cold, damp wind lowering the temperature even further, but the players reacted well. Hendon opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Ivalio DMITROV and the lead was doubled by Paul MORAN in the 32nd minute. Two minutes later, DMITROV notched his second to give Hendon a 3-0 half-time lead. In the second half, MORAN was first to score, after 40 minutes, but DMITROV beat him to the hat-trick, getting his third midway through the half. As Larkspur tired in the final quarter, Hendon added 3 more goals. DMITROV made it a four-timer in the 59th minute, before MORAN completed his hat-trick in the 62nd minute. Five minutes from time, MORAN joined DMITROV on the 4-goal mark. "We showed good application today," said Mr Hyams. "The conditions were terrible but we battled through it. Man of the match was not the two 4-goal men, but Tommy DAVIS. He has been improving all season long and he is a natural at full-back, either right or left."

Sunday 9th December - Pinnstars 1 Hendon 3

Hendon Under-13s made another slow start to a Harrow Youth League match, but again came back to take the spoils. This time it was Pinnstars who profited, opening the scoring the 4th minute. The goal woke up Hendon and they proceeded to dominate the rest of the half, but they were denied but a combination of brilliant saves from the Pinnstars goalkeeper and some pretty awful misses. In the 50th minute, Paul MENOZZI smashed a volley into the top corner for a spectacular equaliser. It was the break Hendon were looking for and, 8 minutes later, Paul MORAN gave Hendon the lead. Man of the match, Anthony WRIGHT stretched the lead to 3-1 with 4 minutes to go, but in the last minute, it was goalkeeper Paul JONES who was the hero, making a fine save from a Pinnstars penalty. Manager Gary Hyams said, "The boys are playing exceptionally well at the moment and today WRIGHT was superb.'

Sunday 2nd December - Hendon 9 South Ruislip Rangers 4

Hendon Under-13s produced one of the more remarkable comebacks of the season when they rebounded from 3-0 after 26 minutes to win 9-4, scoring all their goals in 35 minutes, and 8 in 27 during the second half at Clitterhouse Playing Fields on Sunday morning. It took 15 minutes for the first goal to arrive and it South Ruislip who broke the deadlock. They added another goal 3 minutes later, and a 3rd in the 26th minute. Two minutes later, Paul MORAN reduced the arrears, but the score remained 3-1 at the break. The floodgates opened almost from the kick-off for the second half, with MORAN scoring in the first minute of the period. Three minutes later, Ivalio DMITROV scored the equaliser, but Hendon had to wait another 8 minutes to take the lead, MORAN completing a hat-trick to do the job. Two minutes later MORAN had a 4-timer and after another 2-minute gap DMITROV had his second. South Ruislip gave Hendon a reminder that they weren't out of the game by reducing the arrears to 6-4 in the 54th minute. The next goal was going to be crucial and it came from Minwais DAULAZIA on the hour mark. It broke the hearts of South Ruislip and, a minute later, DMITROV completed his hat-trick. Two minutes later, DMITROV had a four-timer of his own with Hendon's 9th, and last, goal. Manager Gary Hyams had mixed emotions after the match, saying, "It was very disappointing in the first half, but we showed great character in the second to go out and win the game. It seemed like we were asleep in the first half, but we woke up eventually. Man of the match was Paul MORAN."

Sunday 25th November - Headstone Manor B 3 Hendon 4

Hendon produced a performance of great heart and desire to defeat Headstone Manor on Sunday morning, but they had to work oh so hard for it. A goal up in 6 minutes through a Paul MENOZZI penalty, Hendon doubled their advantage after 19 minutes through Paul MORAN. In the 28th minute, Headstone Manor reduced to arrears to a single goal, but 4 minutes later, Ivalio DMITROV made it 3-1. Three minutes into the 2nd half, MORAN scored his 2nd of the game to make it 4-1, but Headstone showed their fighting tendencies by scoring after 42 and 45 minutes. At this point the hero of the day stood up. Goalkeeper Paul JONES produced a great save from a penalty after 60 minutes, then 5 minutes later, did it again, stopping a 2nd penalty to insure Hendon's victory. "Breathless manager Gary Hyams enthused, "We battled brilliantly (I am hoarse from all the shouting). The boys gritted their teeth and got stuck in. It was our best performance of the season. I have two men of the match: goalkeeper Paul JONES for his 2 penalty saves and Ivalio DMITROV who was also outstanding."

Sunday 18th November - Hendon 1 St Andrews 7

Hendon Under-13s went down a 7-1 defeat at home to St Andrews in the Harrow Youth League on Sunday lunchtime, but the scoreline at Clitterhouse Playing Fields really didn't reflect the balance of play. A goal down after 5 minutes, Hendon equalised just 2 minutes later through Paul MORAN. It was not long before things started going horribly wrong and St Andrews scored after 15, 20, 24 and 29 minutes to lead 5-1 at the break. If Hendon had taken their chances and defended just a little better, then it could have been them with the lead at the break. Instead St Andrews built on their half-time advantage and added goals in the 48th and 56th minutes. Surprised manager Gary Hyams said, "If we had taken our chances it would have been a different story. We are a bit of a Jeckyll & Hyde team at the moment. When we are good, we win well, but if we are bad, then we lose heavily. Nobody really deserved a man of the match award today."

Sunday 11th November - Pinner Albion B 1 Hendon 13

Hendon ran 13 goals past Pinner Albion "B" on Sunday morning thanks to an opening burst which saw them lead 4-0 inside 10 minutes. Debutant Kwaku PEPARA scored after just 3 minutes and Russell REED added another 3 minutes later. Two goals in 35 seconds from Anthony WRIGHT and Paul MORAN stretched the lead as Hendon showed a much-improved performance. Ivalio DMITROV made it 5-0 in the 14th minute before Hendon conceded a goal two minutes later. MORAN grabbed his second as Hendon took a 6-1 half-time lead. Two minutes into the second half, WRIGHT scored his second, before MORAN completed his hat-trick in the 42nd minute. In the 48th minute, Paul MENOZZI got in on the act. Six minutes later DMITROV scored his second, joined on the two goal mark moments later by MENOZZI, who converted a penalty. DMITROV's hat-trick came in the 58th minute and the scoring was completed by Rajah AHMED 6 minutes from time. Happy manager Gary Hyams said, "I am highly delighted with the performance, but it was even nicer to see the coaching come through on the pitch. My man of the match today was Russell REED."

Sunday 28th October - Larkspur Rovers B 2 Hendon 7

Hendon Under-13s, well beaten by Larkspur Rovers "A" in the League Cup earlier in the month, gained revenge on Larkspur's "B" squad with a 7-2 victory in the Harrow Youth League Division 1. Ivalio DMITROV gave Hendon a 5th-minute lead, but Larkspur equalised 3 minutes later. After 14 minutes, Paul MORAN restored Hendon's lead and, 6 minutes, later MORAN bagged his second of the day. In the 22nd minute DMITROV scored his second goal, but a minute before the interval Larkspur made it 4-2. Nine minutes into the second half, Hendon made it 5-2 when MORAN completed his hat-trick, a tally matched by DMITROV 20 minutes from time. In the last minute DMITROV made it a personal 4-timer with a good finish. Manager Gary Hyams said, "It was a good team performance. They really worked very hard to get the result this morning. Man of the match today was not one of the goalscorers, but Rajah AMHED

Sunday 14th October - Hendon 0 Larkspur Rovers A 15

Hendon Under-13s learned a harsh lesson in the Harrow Youth League Cup at Clitterhouse Playing Fields on Sunday morning. With just 3 games under their belts, Gary Hyams' boys encountered a Larkspur Rovers team in their 4th season together and they took advantage of the mismatch in experience. For 15 minutes, the game was very tight, but once Larkspur made the breakthrough, Hendon rather fell apart. A shell-shocked Mr Hyams said, "They are very big, strong and skilful. After 15 minutes, their manager said to one of our parents that we were giving a really good game, but once we conceded we lost our shape. From there everything went wrong."

Sunday 7th October - Hendon 1 Spur Road 5

Hendon Under-13s, under the temporary charge of assistant manager Gary Giessing, while Gary Hyams is on holiday, suffered a surprised 5-1 defeat at the hands of Spur Road at Clitterhouse Playing Fields on Sunday morning. After 2 straight Harrow Youth League Division 2 victories, the result may prove to be a good lesson for the first-year team. In fact, the difference in experience was quite noticeable as Spur Road raced into a 3-0 half-time lead, despite not creating all that many chances. Four minutes into the second half, Ivailo DMITROV reduced the arrears and for the next 20 minutes, the game could have gone either way. In the end, Spur Road made Hendon pay for more missed chances by taking 2 of their own, after 60 and 63 minutes to win by a convincing margin. "I'm in no hurry to ring Gary," said Mr Giessing after the match. "The boys had the wrong attitude this morning and they made us pay. My man of the match was goalkeeper Paul JONES, who was less bad than almost everybody else."

Monday 1st October - AFC Wasps 0 Hendon 6

Hendon Under-13s made it 2 wins from 2 games with a 6-0 demolition of AFC Wasps, the soccer section of the West London rugby club on Sunday afternoon. After 9 minutes, Paul MENOZZI opened the scoring and the advantage was doubled by Raj AHMED 5 minutes later. A couple of minutes after scoring his first goal, AHMED grabbed his second, but the rest of the goals and the man of the match award belonged to the team's Pauls. Paul MORAN made it 4-0 on the half-hour mark and just before half-time, MENOZZI netted his second of the game. Eight minutes into the second half MORAN scored his second to seal a comfortable win. "We had enough chances to have scored 20 today," said manager Gary Hyams. "The boys are coming together and we played well today. My man of the match was goalkeeper Paul JONES."

Tuesday 25th September - Hendon 3 Pinnstars 2

Hendon Under-13s made their belated bow on Sunday morning at Clitterhouse Playing Fields, but celebrated it by defeating Pinnstars in slightly controversial manner. The opening goal arrived in the 20th minute, when Martin ORSON gave Hendon the lead. Pinnstars hit back after half-time and equalised in the 40th minute. Ten minutes later Pinnstars took the lead, but Hendon fought back to equalise in the 62nd minute through Paul MENOZZI. With just 3 minutes remaining Paul MORAN scored Hendon's winner, but Pinnstars were furious that the referee had not stopped play to allow treatment for the visitors' goalkeeper, who had taken a knock. In defence of the referee, the lad was not lying on the ground and although, he was holding his stomach, he did not appear to be in great distress. Manager Gary Hyams said, "I am delighted with the boys. They gave me 100 per cent. It is good to get off to a win but there is a long way to go." Man of the match was defender Yosef ZIU.
