Hendon lost to the only goal this afternoon, as a Richard Jolly strike in the first half earned Carshalton all three points at their War Memorial Ground. A much brighter performance from the Greens saw an even first half, both sides forcing smart saves from the respective 'keepers, but it was only after a quick counter-attack that the Robins broke the deadlock, Jolly on hand to fire the home side ahead.

Hendon continued to probe however, and undoubtedly had more of the posession and chances in the second half, O'Leary hitting the bar with a free kick, and Stuart Searle being forced to get down on several occasions to keep the lead intact. However, controversy reigned late on as around 10 minutes from time Hendon were denied a goal as the ball hit the bar, bounced in the vicinity of the goalline and out to be claimed by Searle. Almost immediately from his clearance, the Dons broke again and Haule was brought down by Toppin inside the 6 yard box, but the referee waved away the visiting side's claims.

One of our outstanding league games has now been arranged for January 7th, when the Greens will host Horsham in the game that was posponed due to our visitor's cup run. In other fixture news, we do not expect to arrange a fixture for the weekend of the 12th/13th December, the original date of our recent fixture with Margate, as there is a full league programme that day.

A combination of poor luck and good shot stopping from travelling 'keeper Ollie Morris-Saunders saw Hendon draw 1-1 with bottom side Heybridge Swifts earlier this evening. Hendon undoubtedly had the better of the first half, testing the Heybridge 'keeper on a number of occasions, but he was equal to the majority of efforts, while the post or deflections saved him on the few when he looked beaten. The Swifts came out stronger in the second half though and after an even quarter of an hour took the lead from a long range free kick that crept in the far post as Viner looked to be seeing it wide. The Greens continued to plug away though, and reward came in the 68th minute through a Lee O'Leary header that looped into the net.

Last night's quickly arranged friendly at Bedfont saw Hendon run out 5-3 winners, taking an unasailable lead in the first half. The Greens fielded a strong, but experimental, side with two new faces - David Boateng, a defender previously at the club in 2001, and Tashan Bradshaw, a trialist striker who has previously played at Wingate & Finchley. Scorers for the evening were Garner on 9 minutes, Byfield on 23, Garner (again) just three minutes later and Bradshaw on 43 and 86. Bedfont's goals game on 54 and 61 minutes with a penalty in the 86th minute leading to the last goal of the evening.

Three of our youth teams were in action this weekend, with just one team managing a win. On Saturday afternoon the under 21s lost 3-1 at FC Assyria, Simon Connaughton scoring the only goal in a disappointing performance, while the under 13s came very close to their first win, but lost 8-7 to Lyndhurst. Ademola Alese led the way with a hat-trick, Noah Yosief scored twice and Adam Chowdury and Hoti Daors scored the others.

It was better news for the under 16s who returned to winning ways with a 7-2 victory over Actual Soccer despite going two goals behind. Damilola Thomas and Ben Gibson both scored twice, with Jason Garland, Kamal McEwan and Keiron Lataille also finding the back of the net.

Gary McCann announced this evening that he has arranged a friendly for the first team at short notice to be played on Monday evening. The squad will be travelling to Bedfont for a friendly kicking off at 7.30pm. The match is being played at The Orchard, Hatton Road, Bedfont, TW14 9QT, the nearest tube stop being Hatton Cross on the Picadilly line.

A poor performance from Hendon saw Margate fightback from a goal down and gain revenge for their FA Trophy defeat last month with a 2-1 win. The Greens took the lead midway through the first half, Harry Hunt again hitting the back of the net and nearly extended it shortly after when Haule hit the post. The Dons were left to rue the miss as Margate equalised through Wilson midway through the second half and just three minutes later took the lead, Takaloo taking advantage. In an event remicent of Hendon's win on Tuesday night, Margate saw a late red card as Takaloo recieved his second caution of the match.

Wednesday's night fixture against Heybridge has been confirmed to be taking place this week. As some supporters will be aware, Heybridge were in action in the FA Trophy today and a draw would have led to a midweek replay for the Swifts. However, Hemel Hempstead Town comprehensively outplayed the Essex side and ran out 5-1 winners this afternoon, knocking the Ryman leaguers out of the competition.

Two goals in five minutes sealed a third win in the last four league games for Hendon this evening, AFC Hornchurch being overhauled at their Upminster Stadium. The Urchins took the lead just one minute before half time after Wilmot dropped the ball at full stretch for Mark Janney to react quickest. While just reward for the home side's performance in the first half, the second saw their visitors improve and in the 77th minute Glenn Garner scored with a volley after a Turley cross. Just four minutes on, Guentchev broke through the back four and put the Greens ahead. The evening was only soured by Garner recieving his marching orders in stoppage time after his second booking.

Dates have been set for two of our outstanding cup ties, both of which will be taking place at Wembley FC's Vale Farm. First of all, we will be hosting Harrow Borough in the League Cup on Wednesday 3rd December while the following Wednesday - the 10th - will see us host Bedfont Green in the Middlesex Senior Cup. In other cup news, our hosts in the quarter final of the London Senior Cup haven't become much more clear recently with only one of four sides having been knocked out so far. The winner of Beckenham Town and Dulwich Hamlet will face Erith & Belvedere for the right to host the Dons.

Club secretary Graham Etchell is working hard on arrangments for our fixtures into January and we hope to have more details on our league games in the new year soon.

Peter Lush and David Ballheimer held the launch of their book "Hendon FC: The First 100 Years" on Saturday following the first team fixture at Harrow Borough. Around 30-40 people attended, including a number of former players from throughout the club's history. Among the attendees was legend Rod Haider, who won numerous honours in his thirteen seasons with the club and spoke for several minutes about his time at Hendon and how things have changed since the amateur era.

Also speaking were current manager, Gary McCann, who noted that he had spent his best playing days with the club and that it was the only one that "stayed very close after being on the inside" and Supporters Trust chairman Simon Lawrence who spoke passionately about both his relationship with the club and the future facing us.

Co-authors Peter Lush and David Ballheimer also both thanked the numerous people to help them throughout the writing of the book, a list including: Rod Haider, Dave Bedford, Graham Etchell, Chris Rogers, all those who were interviewed and the Hendon Times.

It has been a busy three weeks since our last youth section update. The under 21s have won twice and lost once. They beat Copland 3-1, Darren Turner scoring twice, then beat Blue Marlin 3-1, Turner and Alan Bolger among the scorers, before losing 2-0 to Stonewall on Saturday afternoon. However, they currently lead their table although other teams have games in hand.

The under 18s are in fine form having won their last three games. Firstly they beat Kensington Dragons 2-1, Hamish Birrell and Felix Murray on target for the team. The following week they thrashed Lancaster Diamonds 12-2. Amazingly no player scored a hat-trick with Birrrell, Anthony Woodbridge, James Healy, Yomi Smith and Niall Fredericks all scoring twice. This weekend just gone, they beat Sporting London e Benfica 7-0 to hit top spot in the table.

The under 16s have had a mixed time, firstly winning 3-0 against Forest United, Jurrell Thomas, Ben Gibson and Kerran Lataille scoring the goals, but last weekend they lost 5-0 to Pinner Albion in a performance described by manager John Creith as one of the worst he'd seen since he joined the club over four years ago.

The under 15s and under 13s are still finding life very tough. Paul McGreal's under 15 side lost 4-1 to FC Kensington, Anthony Tang scoring, before going down 9-2 to Pitshanger B - Sharif Malik and Shaquille Roper finding the back of the net. On Sunday morning they were beaten 14-1 at Headstone Manor B despite taking an early lead through Malik. The under 13s, under the leadership of Leo Gerald, are seeing an improvement despite losing both the games they've played. Last weekend they lost 7-1 against Hampstead B on a very muddy pitch, before losing a 15 goal thriller 9-6 at Lancaster Diamonds yesterday.

Glenn Garner notched up his first league goal for the club this evening, but it proved too little for Hendon as they went down 3-1 to Tonbridge Angels. The away side took the lead in just the 4th minute, Carl Rook lobbing Wilmot from around 12 yards as Parker appealed in vain for the offside flag. With the rest of the first half a disjointed affair, it wasn't until the second half when two goals in three minutes put the result beyond doubt as Jamie Cade first nodded home to finish a well worked move and then slid the ball under Wilmot as Hendon overcommitted and were left exposed on the counter-attack. The Dons continued to probe however and were rewarded just 3 minutes from time as Guentchev slid the ball through to Garner who finished smartly.

Supporters may remember that midfielder Casey Maclaren recently became the youngest person to ever pass 'The Knowledge' - the test that has to be passed to become a fully licenced black cab driver within London. That record was recently broken, not only remaining within the football club, but also within the family. Younger brother Kevin cruised through inside two years at the age of 19, comprehensively smashing Casey's record of being just shy of 21. Although Casey now drives for a living, the younger Maclaren will have to wait for a while longer before starting - he won't recieve his licence until his 21st birthday!

Hendon moved back into 20th place in the Ryman League Premier Division this afternoon, taking advatage of a Ramsgate side that were unusually poor at the back to win 5-1. The first goal came only just before half time through Lee O'Leary, although the Greens soon extended their lead after the break with Brian Haule hitting the target. Within seconds of the restart Ramsgate scored - with their first shot on target - but that was as good as it was to get for the Rams with O'Leary, again, Harry Hunt and substitute Charlie Mapes completing the rout.

Joining the club, initially on a one month loan, Jamie Turley made his first appearance for Hendon in this afternoon's win at Ramsgate. The 18 year old full back has joined from Wycombe Wanderers where he has proved a regular fixture in the reserve side after siging his first professional contract in the summer.

Owing to the cancellation of our home league game with Hastings, we have agreed with Margate to bring forward our fixture to Saturday 22nd November. The rearranged match will still take place as previously planned, at Harrow Borough's Earlsmead ground.

The winners of the October Snowball draw, made at half time during the FA Trophy tie on Sunday, are numbers 66 and 36, taking £238.50 and £119.25 respectively. A futher £79.50 has gone towards the Christmas draw which we expect to be worth over £800. The next draw will take place on Wednesday 26th November at half time in our fixture against Ramsgate. The club are running a coach to Ramsgate, and as always supporters are welcome to travel on it. The coach will depart from Claremont Road at 10.45am promptly and will not wait for latecomers.

There have been some changes to forthcoming fixtures. Our home game against Hastings United, due to be played on Saturday 22nd November has been postponed due to Hastings progressing in the FA Trophy yesterday afternoon. Our outstanding home game against Heybridge Swifts will now be played on Wednesday 26th November at Vale Farm, whilst our away game at Harlow Town will now be played on Tuesday 16th December. Both these games will kick off at 7.45pm. It is possible that we will fill the gap on 22nd November with another game, any further changes will be announced on the website in due course.

Hendon's dream of an FA Trophy run came to a premature end once again as they lost 2-1 to Sutton United in an entertaining game at Vale Farm. The Greens took the lead through Harry Hunt after 17 minutes, before Craig Dundas equalised nine minutes later. Shortly before half time Gavin McCullum gave Sutton the lead, and despite the Greens best efforts, Sutton held on to progress through to the next round.
