For season 1911/12, as well as participation in both the Finchley and Willesden Leagues, Hampstead Town (Hendon) also entered Division Two of the London League.
This meant a full and varied fixture list that was likely to keep the club well and truly occupied for the majority of weekends in the forthcoming season. Many of our players from the previous campaign were still with the club, with useful new acquisitions in left winger G. Garlick and inside right S. Evans.
By the end of October, the fortunes of the team had been fairly mixed, but between the posts J. Pells had suffered a loss of confidence and form after conceding a number of soft goals as Hampstead let in 6 at Finchley and 7 at Wealdstone. He made way for E.C. East, and almost immediately the defence tightened up and the results improved as Hampstead lost just one game out of ten right to the end of 1911.
With membership of the club increasing, and a fair number of games to be played, it was decided that a very strong second XI would take over most of the remaining fixtures in the Middlesex and Finchley leagues, while the first team would concentrate on the London League, as well as engaging in the odd friendly match against senior clubs. In fact, on 27th January 1912, both teams played and won Middlesex League fixtures on the same afternoon, with the first team defeating Hyde & Kingsbury 4-1 at Kensal Rise, while the reserves beat Kilburn 3-0 away.
G. Hyde, who had been scoring consistantly for the reserves, earned a first team call up, and straight away notched a hat trick as Nunhead were beaten 3-2 in the London League.
In the event, a final mid-table placing in a strong London League was a pretty comendable baptism, while the championship of the Willesden League was won, after a play-off with Deerfield Social.
